I have recently received a new laptop and phone (Dell and Samsung Tocco Lite) and have been thinking about technology lately.
Ten years ago people were only just getting into the internet, I myself had only been usuing it for three or four years, but since then it has exploded onto the scenes and is now a part of everyones life. Heck, even my grandad e-mails me every now and then.
The internet has taken off immensely, twenty years ago people said mobile phones would never work, look at them now, you can watch TV, take pictures and listen to music all on one device. Incredible. All down to internet access, it is amazing that the extent to which the internet has worked, people now shop online, bank online, even watch TV online.
I have been thinking about this, in ten years so much has happened, what will happen in the next ten years? Phones are getting mroe complex, look at the iPhone, such a small thin device, yet contains so much. With the introduction of the iPad the next ten years look unbelievable for technology.
Has anyone seen the film Avatar? If not, you should, incredible film. On it, they have handheld computers and digital maps with no screen, just pure touchpad technology. I was amazed when I saw this, but it is not out of this world that this will be introduced within the next ten years. Sci-fi is becoming reality.
It is a scary thought that films from the 90's are now reality, and with the introduction of I.D. cards or wireless banking it may not all be for the good. Is it really secure to have a wireless bank card? That is a topic for another day.

A New Start
Okay, so as the story idea hasn't kicked off (although I am still trying to develop a novel) I thought I would use this blog to keep updated with news and goings on. As well as rant about recent events and shout my opinion out on certain topics.
Today, the 14th March 2010, is the first of many updates and posts about the goings on within my life.

Creating a lead character for our story
Still thinking of settings for the story? So am I, just a quick update, the more I think about it the more I want to create a universe in which fantasy has arisen in the modern day world. With skyscrapers, museums and everything in between. But that's not for me to decide, this is our story so I must take input from everyone.
So, after we have decided where our setting will be, created famous landmarks for the characters to quest upon, we must produce a character to follow. This may not be a main character, but a start character if you will. As you know, characters will appear as and when throughout the story, building their personalities and relationships up as we travel along.
The following questions must be asked of a character:
So, get your thinking caps on and help us write what could turn out to be the longest journey of our lives

The following questions must be asked of a character:
- Gender?
- Race. Human or otherwise?
- Character type. Warrior or wizard or something inbetween?
- Looks. What the appearance of our character will be.
- Name. The most important feature in a book (As it will be read a lot, so an intriguing name is required)
So, get your thinking caps on and help us write what could turn out to be the longest journey of our lives

How shall we begin?
Before we begin our journey we must come up with a setting and character for our story. So, shall we get on with it?
In my personal opinion I read a lot of fantasy novels and the typical fantasy setting is somewhat medieval, way before our modern era. It is a time of castles and dragons, with the odd bit of witchcraft thrown in the cauldron. (Excuse the pun)
So, I have been thinking, do we want our story to be your typical fantasy novel? Or something that currently doesn't exist? Well, I have come up with a few ideas listed below for the setting to our world:
Any ideas?

So, I have been thinking, do we want our story to be your typical fantasy novel? Or something that currently doesn't exist? Well, I have come up with a few ideas listed below for the setting to our world:
- Woodland with log cabins
- Typical fantasy, with castles and drawbridges
- Small towns with interconnecting dust roads
- Desert land
- Ice and fire integrated within the landscape
- One that I believe could be interesting: Modern day with a twist?
- Dark, grimy land of witches, swamps and dense jungle
Any ideas?
Want to write your own story?
So, you have arrived, I am sure you are wondering what everything is about?
Well, to put it simply, you are...
Have you ever imagined writing your own book and it becoming a bestseller? Well, what this blog aims to do is turn that image into reality.
What we as a community will be trying to achieve is to write our own 'book', where anyone can continue the story. People will be giving their ideas on the next chapter, and should any idea appear more than once, this is where the story will lead to.
People even have the chance to write their own chapter of a story, and seeing the success of their passion for writing.
So, shall we get started? I will be posting up a first few paragraphs of the story in the next few days, in which the adventure will continue...
